Shawn was born in Arizona, but grew up in both Alberta, Canada and Southern California, where he is currently based. The wide variety of environments he has experienced has shaped him into an artist that is always looking for commonalities, ways to connect seemingly disparate elements.

He feels a deep connection to the Earth, wildlife, and humanity, and sees portraiture as a way to unlock paths of empathy to others that are so often blocked. Never satisfied with one way of doing things, he explores these connections through a wide variety of subjects and styles. While others may call his body of work eclectic, he's never been able to limit himself to one way of working or being.
